The Delicate Process of Making Black Hills Gold

Black Hills Gold is not just any gold. It’s a unique American art form that has been handcrafted for over a century. Each piece is made by skilled artisans who learned their craft from their predecessors. And each piece is one-of-a-kind, a reflection of the pride and care that goes into its creation.

It all starts with a vision and a 24-karat gold bar. The bar is transformed into sheets of gold alloyed with other metals. Then, leaves and other parts are punched out of the sheets by hand. These parts are then soldered together to create a frame for the design.

The next step is to create a wax mold of the design. The wax mold is then encased in a plaster-like substance, and the wax is melted out. This leaves a void that is filled with molten 10-karat gold, creating a cast of the design.

The 12-karat gold leaves are then individually hand-soldered to the casted gold frame. The finished piece is then dipped in liquid 24-karat gold, giving it a bright and eye-catching finish. But that’s not all.

The leaves are then wriggled, a handcrafted finishing method that creates a rich, frosty depth. The veins of each leaf are meticulously hand-engraved to produce unique, light-catching prismatic cuts. It’s a process that requires patience, skill, and a true appreciation for the craft.

And when it’s all done, you have a piece of Black Hills Gold that is not just beautiful, but also a true work of art. A piece that has been crafted with care and pride, and that will last a lifetime.
